GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 12th. August, 1912.

Sir,

I have the honour to transit a copy of a

report by Dr. Francis Clark, hedical Officer of Health, on the

plague outbreak in Hongkong this year. There are still a few cases of plague each week, but the epidemic may be said to have come to an end in July.

2.

The report shows that the work of combating the disease was carried on with great vigour, and I have much pleasure in recording my appreciation of the indefatigable labours of Dr. Clark and the officers of the Sanitary Department. With few exceptions the Chinese omers and occupiers gave every assistance in carrying out the measures considered necessary to clear out the rats from houses, and in many cases tuc ceilings and wainscottings had been re.oved before the arrival of the Sanitary Officials.

3.

I would draw special attention to paragraph 5

of the report which deals with the special measures taken in a selected area. The result was satisfactory but as the work did not begin till the end of April it will be necessary to wait till

next plague season in order to institute any really valuable comparison. EB

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Ann.

Governor,&c..
